UConn Senior Design

At the University of Connecticut, a major component of the Mechanical Engineering Curriculum is the Senior Design course - a two-semester project in which a team of seniors within the program are assigned a project through a sponsor company, with a specific objective but relatively open-ended solutions.

I personally was put on a project with Sweet Acre Farm, a small local farm looking to lower cost and heighten efficiency with a retrofit manure spreader that would be able to spread compost and wood chips in a clean, controlled manner.

My team, ME40, consists of 4 other individuals - while we are all in the ME program, we have significantly different backgrounds. I quickly took on a leadership role in the team. During team meetings I direct conversation and take notes, along with creating a schedule for future assignments and project deadlines. I am the main form of communication between the school and our team and am responsible for making sure the team is aware of what needs to get done, and when. I generally have been asked to make certain final decisions in regard to major decisions when it was split among other members and am the member who begins and sends out each assignment.

To the right, our interim report draft can be found, documenting some of our progress over the first semester.
